“Ben and I owe everything to him. He said yes to our movie and he got it made. I could never thank him enough,” Damon told Couric. “You know, I look around at the life I have and how blessed I feel, and so much of it started with him.”

Damon revisited the famous bench in Boston Commons where a scene between Matt and Robin was filmed. “I walked over there with my family and we sat on the bench,” he said. “The kids didn’t know, they’ve never seen the movie, they’re too young. But it was nice to go back and think about him back there.”

Good Will Hunting was stuck in preproduction for two years until Robin signed on. The film launched the careers of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and earned Robin Williams his only Academy Award for Actor in a Supporting Role.
